Twain Tackles America's Financial Crisis

Americans are continually being faced with a growing debt problem. The Government officials that we elected to successfully run our country are increasing our nation’s debt by the millions. We allow pompous, arrogant and self-absorbed men and women the right to throw money around leaving the middle class citizens to make up for it. They raise our taxes, considered pay cuts within our military and even continue to add our debt with personal spending with no disciplinary action placed upon them. The sad thing is that most Americans are aware of this problem and do nothing. There are a slim few that hear about it and try to get the Government to realize what this is doing to its people but it normally results in disappointment. If the Government won’t change this, then who could make them stop affecting their own country?
This is where I believe Mark Twain could play a key role in the deciding factor. He was a man who didn’t hesitate to tell anyone how he felt.  The men that would rave about him were even slandered at. He would humiliate you in public and make sure all were aware of what he said. His witty personality may have appeared as a sense of humor but for those familiar with Mark Twain knew he was only speaking his mind. Twain no matter how honest he came across also had a sensitive side.  His novels would lead you to believe that he formed his characters to be similar to him. Twain’s main character Huck Finn “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”, faced imprisonment to help a slave reach his freedom. Aware of the fact that this man was considered property, Huck didn’t and treated him as his equal. Twain’s characters were brave, courageous and would face criticism and punishment for what they believed in.
The completely different types of behavior between Mark Twain’s personality and most American’s now a day, leads me to believe that Twain wouldn’t think twice about arguing with our spending problem. He would go directly to the source and give them a piece of his mind. He would be sure to inform them of what he feels they must do to correct this problem while belittling the men and women in charge of allowing our debt to continue to sky rocket. Raising taxes wouldn’t be an option since Twain lived as a middle class citizen and worked for everything he had. Twain would find a clever way to write a short story addressing the issues at hand make it public so everyone would know directly who was responsible for this.
